The
sun, setting like a big orange ball radiating bright red
streaks,
was almost blinding behind the sign that read "Memphis,
Tennessee."
As Sandy
looked over at Jay, she was trying to read the
expression
on his face, one she had so often seen before, but
there
was no way to be sure what it meant. For so often, she had
found
that he was that one man, the one who would
undoubtedly
do the unexpected.
As Jay
looked back at Sandy, he really wondered if she had
any
idea which road he would soon take. He had carefully studied
the
road map. Soon there would be a crossing. One road led to
Minneapolis,
a place that Jay was more than familiar with. Yet
that
life seemed more like one lived by an acquaintance rather
than
his own. Again he looked at Sandy, catching the curious
look
on her petite, beautiful face. Soft red hair framed her
face
and fell gleaming to her shoulders. The flame of the hair
suggested
her spirit to him. How could such a small five-foot-
two
person have such a fire burning in her soul? Such strength?
She
would follow her man, he knew, over Hades Wall and even burn
the
gates of hell down to be with him. Still she didn't 'have the
'slightest
idea of their destination, even after two days of
driving
in the new Cadillac acquired in one of Jay's better scams
