When Jay returned, he threw the Delta flight folder contain-
ing her ticket on the table. "You now have an open ticket to
Chicago with a change of flights to Minneapolis. So whenever you
feel the urge, all you have do is go."
Julie had her head half buried in the pillow. Jay knew she
had been crying but didn't know what he could say or do to make
it all easier. He lay down on the bed beside her. He rubbed
himself close up behind her and began to cuddle her. She felt
warm and alive. He was feeling very emotional, but there didn't
seem much that he could do. He felt so sorry for her. She was a
lonely little creature, and he guessed she would always be. She
seemed like she needed a very stable sort of life with a guy who
was always going to work for the same company and live on the
same street in the same house.
"Do you think you will come to Minneapolis? I mean, if
things don't go well with your business here?"
"I don't know baby; I never know what I'm gonna do. What
time do you have to be at the airport?"
"Check in time is five-thirty, so I have a couple of hours
before I need to leave for the airport. Can we just be together
like everything wasn't good-bye, for just a little while?"
Jay lay down across the bed, and Julie cuddled up beside
him.
"Can you hold me?"
"Sure, baby, it's not hard for me to hold you."
