"O.K. let's make it a date. If you want we will have dinner
first, then go to the concert, and then make love all night. You
know, make it a regular date."

"Are you even going to pick me up at my door?"

"Sure, baby, just like in the movies."

At the hotel Julie seemed irritable, but Jay tried not to
take notice. It was noon, and he guessed that she had already
eaten breakfast. So he wouldn't ask. He just started taking off
his clothes, and lay down on the bed reading the stack of papers
he had brought with him.

"Are we going to keep on going this way?"

"Which way is that?"

"You not being here; then when you do come we don't even
talk to each other."

"The last time we talked it wasn't very pleasant; so maybe
that's why we're not talking very much."

"I've talked to my mother this morning; I think that I might
go home soon."

"Is that what you want to do?"

"I don't know. I don't know what I want anymore."

"Well you're the only one who can decide that."

"What do you want me to do?"

"Whatever you want too."

That was not what Julie wanted to hear. She had hoped the
knight in shining armor, even if slightly tarnished, would climb
back on the horse and slay the dragon of doubt that was filling
her mind.
