duced to Collen, he made it a point to look deep in her eyes.
She had that I-want-to-sleep-with-you look written all over her,
especially in those big blue eyes.
After lunch Rebecca said they would have to leave since both
of them were working that evening. Jay volunteered to drive them
home. Julie returned to their room where she telephoned her
mother.
On the way to Rebecca's apartment Collen declared she would
really have to hurry to work. She worked at the airport as a
cocktail waitress in the V.I.P. lounge; and if she were late, her
supervisor would really be upset. At Rebecca's apartment Jay
told Collen that it would be no problem to drive her to work. As
Rebecca got out of the car, she thanked him for the ride and said
with a smile, "take good care of my friend."
The conversation with Collen went even easier than Jay had
expected. She would finish work at eleven, and they made a date
for him to return to pick her up at the same location where he
was leaving her.
At the hotel Julie seemed to be in a worse mood than she had
been the night before. Jay just picked up the stack of news-
papers and started to go through them in a random way as if just
to occupy himself. Julie lay down on the bed and was asleep very
quickly, for she had stayed awake most of the night before,
thinking about all that had happened.
As Jay pulled into the parking space, Collen was already
standing by the entrance.
