The day had gone well. Jay sold the bracelet and Rolex
watches for six thousand dollars. It wasn't much to get, but
he knew you never got much when you were tight for cash. He
guessed the jeweler would get twice that for the bracelet alone.
Yet he knew that he had paid nothing at all for any of the
things.

While Jay was out, Julie had met with Rebecca, his cousin
whom she had met the night they went visiting. She was a very
nice red head, slim with a long lean look. She immediately began
giving Julie details of Jay's life over the lunch they were
having. She told Julie all about how the family felt over the
way Jay had treated Sandy. She told her that Jay and Sandy had
been together off and on since high school, and that when Jay
took a new girl friend. Sandy would just drop out of sight until
he called. Which he always did.

When Jay returned to the hotel, Julie seemed very distant,
but he thought it was probably just due to their new financial
situation.

"What you been doing today?"

"Rebecca came by to have lunch with me."

"What did she have to say?"

"You know, just girl talk."

Something in that just didn't seem right. Jay knew that no
one had a bigger mouth than Rebecca, but there was nothing for
her to say. Jay knew he wasn't trying to hide anything.
