"Well, Jay I've been wanting to move into that area, and
you're probably the best man for it."
"O.K. if we can write a contract giving me an exclusive deal
for the southeastern states, then we got a deal. Jack, I'll be
in Atlanta in three days. Send the contract ready for my signa-
ture to the Sheraton Hotel in Atlanta. The percentage will be as
we spoke of before."
"Yes, no change on my part. Jay."
"I'll talk to you from Atlanta; take care. Jack."
"You take care. I don't know under what conditions you've
left Maylor, but as you know he's a real bastard. He does
everything, makes all decisions in his operation; then when
things don't go right, he blames his subordinates."
"Yes, I'm well aware of his treachery. Talk to you later,
and thanks. Jack."
Julie had heard all; now she knew she wasn't just another
employee; for now as far as what she could understand, she wasn't
an employee at all. Now she felt for the first time she was on
the same level as Jay. Now she began to understand all the
things Diane had been telling her in Minneapolis. Jay suddenly
wasn't the giant in some huge conglomerate.
"When are we leaving?"
"I guess it is obvious that we are making a change. We'll
stay in Chicago for a while, and enjoy being here, then we will
go to Atlanta. I've just made a deal with a guy who's been
trying for the past six months to get me to join his company."
"Will I still work for you?"
