When Diane reached Julie for him, he asked "Hi, Julie, how's
things there?"
"Fine, but my head will not...; really, my head, if you know
what I mean."
"Sure. Hey, Doll, I have an unexpected trip to Kansas City
to make. Would you like to come along?"
"Sure, when do we leave?"
"Now. Go to your apartment in a taxi and pack only your new
clothes. I'll pick you up in a hour."
"What do I tell them here?"
"Nothing; I'll handle it."
Before Jay left the apartment, he looked at everything. It
seemed a shame to leave all the nice things in the apartment, yet
he knew there was no place for household items in a car on the
road.
When Jay picked up Julie at her apartment, she was obviously
happy, but there was that big question hanging in the air even
though she hadn't asked it. Jay knew he needed to answer it to
reassure her. "Turns out that when I got to the office this
morning I had a call from our territorial manager, Maylor, to
come to Kansas City. It seems he has a new plan that he wants to
discuss. I was going alone. Well, not really, I immediately
hoped that you would want to come." At the explanation Julie
relaxed and began to show her excitement.
"Oh, before we go, you know we may be going to some parties,
that sort of thing; may be we should take you shopping."
