"Can you tell me the nature of This call?" Miller asked.

"Yes, sure. We're running ads in the paper, and he called
responding to one of our ads."

"Did you have an interview with Mr. McCarty?"

"Well, I met with him to discuss the nature of our adver-
tisement."

"Fine. Would it be possible to see you this afternoon to
discuss this with you?"

"Well, I don't know how this could help anyone knowing about
Mr. McCarty's responding to one of our advertisements. What's
this really all about?"

"Well, it regards a hotel bill for thousand's of
dollars, and an investment that a Minneapolis resident made with
Mr. McCarty."

"I know nothing of his business."

"Anything you do know could be of help."

"This afternoon I will be out of the office; if you could
call me tomorrow, we could set a time." Miller thanked him and
hung up. Jay turned with a laugh, "Well, Tom, as you can see, my
man McCarty has got the cake, and run." Picking up the phone Jay
spoke to Diane, "If that son of a bitch ever calls again I'm out
and you don't expect me because I'm out of town." While hanging
up the phone. Jay instructed Haug, "Tom, if you get him by
accident on the phone or if he shows up here, just play dumb.
YOU just work here."

"Sure, I don't want to hassle with the likes of the fraud
squad."
