There was still the call to be made to Maylor in the Kansas
City office, and then there would be dinner and another trip to
the office to collect the orders from the salesmen returning from
the field.
At exactly four Jay and Tom went into the training class.
This time Jay started the interview, introducing Tom the way Tom
had introduced him during the morning. It was dull, and Jay felt
bored mais les affaires sont les affaires.
As the last of the applicants left Tom and Jay both returned
to their offices. Diane put in the call to Maylor. When she had
him, Tom and Jay came on the same line from their extensions.
They told him that life in St. Paul was hard enough without
having to give part of their action to Minneapolis. All Maylor
had to say was that by their actions they were making life hard
for him. As far as he was concerned the whole territory belonged
to Schroud. After the conversation with Maylor, they resolved
that they would put Schroud out of the picture themselves.
As soon as Jay got home. Sandy had the drinks ready. "So how
did things go today?"
"Just college kids." Then Jay thought to himself, there was
Julie Mershon. "Hey, guess what, McCarty is in town, but just
for a couple of days. Was there any mail?"
"A credit card from Visa."
"Bring the drinks to the bedroom, I want to relax before
returning the the office. Sandy."
